A police officer has been caught driving at 150km/h with no sirens or lights on but claimed they were “testing” the speed of the car.

The IPCA said the officer was not responding to an incident and was 54km/h over the speed limit.

The officer was caught speeding by another officer, the IPCA said.

“The investigation found the officer did not have their lights and sirens activated and was not responding to an emergency or undertaking urgent duty driving.”

“The officer explained they were testing the speed of the vehicle; however, they accepted they should not have been speeding at that speed,” they added.

They have been charged with exceeding the speed limit and has now completed a programme of diversion and no conviction was entered.

The IPCA said it was satisfied with the investigation and the outcome.
